One of the recurring issues that indigenous activists are counteracting is the fashion industry’s, as well as other sectors’ appropriation of traditional culture. Online activists have been crucial in bringing these issues to national attention and engaging companies such as Urban Outfitters, Gap and Paul Frank in important changes. Moreover, new media has served as a vehicle to promote contemporary indigenous designers and artists and show the modern vitality of native culture. 

CULTURAL OWNERSHIP & REMIX 

New media has also been a powerful tool in organizing native communities, especially across tribes, to advocate about important social issues. Crowd funding, creative campaigns, and transmedia collaboration have been used to achieve tangible results as well as build necessary conversations. It is especially the younger generation that are developing these tools and tactics and using these new ways to be heard.
